MATHS INTENT STATEMENT

Inspire & Aspire

Inspired by God, we aspire to be the best we can be, so that we can live life in all its fullness.

" I have come that they may have life to the full." ( John 10:10)

We provide a mathematics curriculum using the maths mastery approach,  which is accessible to all and will maximise the development of every child’s ability and academic achievement. We deliver lessons that are creative and engaging, enabling children to make rich connections across mathematical ideas to develop fluency and mathematical reasoning. As our pupils progress, we aim for them to develop the ability to think and communicate mathematically, have an appreciation of the beauty and power of mathematics, and a sense of enjoyment and curiosity about the subject.

What is teaching for mastery?

Mastering maths means pupils of all ages acquiring a deep, long-term, secure and adaptable understanding of the subject. The phrase ‘teaching for mastery’ describes the elements of classroom practice and school organisation that combine to give pupils the best chances of mastering maths. Achieving mastery means acquiring a solid enough understanding of the maths that’s been taught to enable pupils to move on to more advanced material.
